The Queensland Nursing Council (QNC) is responsible for the regulation of nursing in Queensland to ensure safe and competent nursing practice. The registration policy of QNC requires nurses returning to practice after more than five years absence and for those who gained their qualifications in another country where English is not their first language to undertake the Competence Assessment Service program.   You need to officially apply to the Queensland Nursing Council (QNC) for approval to undertake the Competence Assessment Service.

The Competence Assessment Service was developed to provide a valid, reliable and integrated method of assessing competence for practice. This model of assessment is accessible, flexible and cost effective. The Service is provided by CQUniversity and Central Queensland Institute of TAFE on behalf of the Queensland Nursing Council.

The Service takes an integrated approach, involving an initial demonstrating competence document, a two part challenge test and relevant education modules (as required).
